Course Description
This two-wheeled motorcycle training course is for novice riders and those with limited riding experience, as well as riders who haven't ridden for a few years. The course teaches the basic skills needed to operate a two-wheeled motorcycle in traffic. Training includes a five hour online Basic eCourse and 12 hours of on-motorcycle riding exercises. Motorcycles are provided to individuals attending this course.
Some of the training locations have a limited number of scooters available for those individuals that have made the decision to ride a scooter. The scooters have an automatic transmission so shifting is not required. If you decide to take a course using a scooter you will need to check the box next to “I wish to take the course using a Program Scooter”. If that option is not offered, then a scooter is not available for the course you have selected.
Students successfully completing a Basic Rider Course conducted by the VT Rider Education Program will be exempt from taking the Vermont motorcycle written and skill examinations to obtain a motorcycle endorsement.
Course Enrollment Requirements
Student must be at least 16 years of age and hold a valid Vermont driver's license. If the student is under 18 years of age a parent or guardian must sign the course waiver form at the start of the course. Student must be able to balance a two-wheeled vehicle, such as a bicycle.
Course Riding Gear Requirements
DOT compliant 3/4 or full-face helmet (if you do not have a helmet the program will have one available for you to use during the course)
Protective eyewear (face shield, googles, eye or sunglasses)
Sturdy over the ankle boots
Long non-flare denim pants or of a material of equivalent or better durability with no tears or holes
Long sleeved shirt or jacket
Sturdy full-fingered gloves, preferably leather

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early and be ready to participate. Course activities begin as scheduled. It is recommended that you bring a lunch and plenty of liquids. You will be given at least a 45 minute lunch break. Some training locations do not have food readily available nearby.
Learning to ride a motorcycle is a very physical activity. If you have a medical condition that may restrict your ability to learn to ride a motorcycle, please consult your physician before taking a Vermont Rider Education Program Rider Course.
Course Completion Requirements
Successful completion of the eCourse, and a passing score on the skills tests.
Students successfully completing the BRC conducted by the VT Rider Education Program will be exempt from taking the Vermont motorcycle knowledge and skill examinations to obtain a motorcycle endorsement .
